The North Carolina Chapter of the Sierra Club has endorsed Senator Terry Van Duyn (D-Buncombe) for Lieutenant Governor. In a release to the media, Chair of the Sierra Club, Ken Brame, stated that, “The Sierra Club is proud to endorse Senator Terry Van Duyn for Lieutenant Governor. Terry has been a champion for our environment in the State Senate. She has continually stood up and spoken out on the issues that matter to all of us. She’s voted to hold corporate polluters accountable and to ensure that everyone has access to safe, clean, drinking water. I know she will continue that fight as Lieutenant Governor.”

In response to the endorsement, Senator Van Duyn remarked, “From the mountains to our coast, every North Carolinian relies on an environment that is safe and clean. In the State Senate, I have been a fighter for clean drinking water and holding corporate polluters accountable, and I will continue that fight as our next Lieutenant Governor.” Van Duyn continued, “Corporate polluters should pay to clean up their own mess and no North Carolinian should be afraid to drink the water in their own home. I am grateful to the Sierra Club for putting their trust in me and I look forward to continuing our partnership as a member of the Executive Branch.”

The Sierra Club’s endorsement is preceded by those of State Auditor Beth Wood (D), former Attorney General and Secretary of State, Rufus Edmisten (D), Professional Fighter Fighters and Paramedics Association of North Carolina and SMART Labor Union, in addition to dozens of elected officials ranging from the General Assembly to town halls across North Carolina.

Senator Van Duyn currently represents Buncombe County in the State Senate. She served as Democratic Whip for two terms and was the lead fundraiser to the Senate Democratic Caucus when she partnered with Governor Cooper to break the Republican supermajority.
