RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Tom Fetzer, the seasoned political strategist who engineered the historic Republican takeover of the North Carolina General Assembly in 2010 has signed on to the Marco Rubio campaign in North Carolina.

Fetzer, the former Raleigh mayor, introduced Rubio at Saturday's rally at the state fairgrounds where roughly 1,000 people showed up to cheer on the Florida senator.

Fetzer was head of the state Republican Party during the 2010 cycle. He left the position and became a successful lobbyist at the General Assembly.

A new Fox News national poll of head-to-head matchups shows Rubio defeating Democrat Hillary Clinton 50 to 41 percent.
