RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - The Democrat who wants to oust Gov. Pat McCrory from the state's top job said Wednesday that he agrees with the governor on the need to stop the flow of Syrian refugees into North Carolina.

"As chief law enforcement officer of North Carolina, I support asking the federal government to pause refugee entries to make sure we have the most effective screening process possible so our humanitarian efforts are not hijacked,” Cooper said after state Republican Party Chairman Dallas Woodhouse held a news conference asking Cooper and his Democratic opponent, Ken Spauling, to voice their views.

McCrory announced his position Monday, detailing the contents of a letter he sent to President Obama making a formal request that the federal government not send anymore Syrian refugees to North Carolina. The governor said he has concerns about background checks and lack of information to ensure the refugees are not a security risk.

Officials investigating the ISIS terrorist attack on Paris say at least one of the terrorists entered Europe disguised as a refugee.
