RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Saying North Carolina needs a conservative in the U.S. Senate, Greensboro resident Larry Holmquist has entered the Republican primary for U.S. Senate. The seat is now held by fellow Republican Richard Burr, who is seeking re-election.

Holmquist's announcement makes him the second Republican to challenge Burr. Paul Wright has also said he will see the GOP nomination for the seat.

Spring Lake Mayor Chris Rey announced last month that he will seek the Democratic Party's nomination for the seat.

North Carolina's primary will be held March 15, 2016.

Filing begins in December.
