RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - State Democrats are continuing their message that state Republican policies are bad for education.

In a fundraising email signed by Rep. Tricia Cotham, the party urges supporters to donate to the party with a message initially tied to the birthday of Superintendent of Public Instruction June Atkinson.

The email is below.

"Pop quiz! Who was the first female to serve in her elected office, has served our state tirelessly for a decade, and is responsible for the development of over 1.5 million of our children's learning experiences?

She's North Carolina's own Superintendent June Atkinson.

Aside from celebrating her countless achievements in her efforts to combat high school drop out, provide innovative learning experiences to our students, and defend our public school dollars against Republican efforts to dismantle education as we know it in NC we have another fantastic reason to honor her: It's her birthday!

Will you join me and sign our birthday card to Dr. Atkinson letting her know how much we appreciate her hard work?

Having strong and intelligent women like her leading our state inspires the next generation of leadership to step up and get active. We all owe Dr. Atkinson a debt of gratitude, so add your name to her birthday card today and send it over to a friend afterwords!

Yours,

Rep. Tricia Cotham

P.S. You can help send Superintendent Atkinson the gift of electing more Democrats that will support our public schools in North Carolina. Click here to contribute to the NCDP's Front Line efforts on education!"
