RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - On Tuesday night, former Johnston County state Sen. David Rouzer was elected to North Carolina's 7th District seat in Congress, a win that represents a Republican pickup of a seat. Democrat Mike McIntyre held the seat for many years but decided not to run for re-election following a razor-thin victory in 2012.

Rouzer defeated Democrat Jonathan Barfield and Libertarian J. Wesley Casteen for the seat.

Congressman-elect Rouzer released the following statement:

"I am humbled by the support and prayers of so many throughout the course of this campaign, and I'm honored to have the confidence of the voters of the Seventh District.

"The challenges we face in this country are significant, and there is only one clear path forward to restore America to greatness.  We must get back to God and common sense.  My pledge to the fine citizens of this district, this state, and this country is to always do what is right and what is good for the country. May God always bless America."
