RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - The North Carolina League of Conservation Voters announced Monday that Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan will top the speaker list of its annual dinner. Hagan is seeking re-election to the U.S. Senate, where she has served as the junior senator since 2009.

The event will take place May 27 in Raleigh.

The dinner will feature an awards ceremony to honor state legislators and leaders who meet the environmental group's standards for protecting the environment.

In a news release, the group notes that when Sen. Hagan was a state legislator, she cosponsored the Clean Smokestacks Act, to reign in pollution from coal-fired power plants.

According to the group, Hagan "has also been a consistent vote against legislation to block the EPA from reducing carbon and mercury pollution. Time and again Senator Hagan has voted to end taxpayer-funded subsidies to Big Oil.

As co-chair of the new Clean Energy Innovation Project at the think tank Third Way, she has been a public advocate for extending incentives, like the Production Tax Credit, for renewable energies."
