RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Democrats and Republicans are raising money to cover their upcoming political conventions, but when it comes to security, the money comes from Congress.

In a story about convention fundraising, USA Today reports that Congress has set aside $100 million to cover both conventions. That doesn't include money the Federal Elections Commission throws into the pot. The newspaper says the FEC provides $18 million for each convention. The public money is designated for salaries and other convention activities.
The Republican convention will be held in Tampa, Florida August 27 - 30. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is expected to receive the GOP's nomination for president.
The Democratic convention will be held in Charlotte, September 4 - 6. The party will nominate President Barack Obama for a second term.
