RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - An official bill requesting that  a statue of Reverend Billy Graham replace the statue of former North Carolina Gov. Charles Aycock in the U.S. Capitol has been sent for consideration to the Joint Committee on the Library of Congress.

Members of Graham's family attended a ceremony of the bill signing with Gov. Pat McCrory at the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte.

Those honored in Statuary Hall are honored posthumously. Graham is in his late 90s.

Aycock has become a symbol of controversy over how he is honored for his service as governor from 1901 to 1905. Public documents show he held white supremacist views.
