RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Jeff Neely used to be a high-paid federal government executive. But now he's trading his government office for a jail cell after a judge sentenced him to three months of confinement for his role in a scandal involving abuse of taxpayer dollars.

Neely will also be required to serve three years of probation, and to pay restitution of $8,000, a fine of $2,000, and more.

Neely was part of the infamous $822,000 General Services Administration conference scandal, which revealed ostentatious spending for federal employees on hotels, gifts, and more in 2010. He was the top official in the agency's western region.

Earlier this year, he pleaded guilty to fraud against the government. He was fired by the agency when the lavish spending came to light.
