Catastrophic flooding continues in Greenville, Pitt County and eastern North Carolina in the wake of Hurricane Matthew. East Carolina University will not hold classes for the remainder of the week.

For employees: Given the exceptional nature of this weather event, UNC-system President Margaret Spellings has granted ECU permission to enact Condition 3 closure, according to the UNC system's Adverse Weather and Emergency Event policy. The Condition 3 closure is retroactive to the beginning of the day, Monday Oct. 10, and will remain in effect until further notice.

Students should not return to campus and Greenville until further notice. Many roads are impassible and others are expected to close.

ECU has established a call center at 252-737-5100 for students, parents and employees who have non-emergency questions post-Hurricane Matthew. It will be staffed 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for as long as needed. On Twitter, use #ECUMatthew with questions.

ECU Physicians clinics will be open on a limited basis for the rest of the week. Patients and employees should call 252-744-5080 or 1-800-745-5181 for details. School of Dental Medicine clinics will be open on a limited basis, for emergency patients and for patients who can safely come in for their confirmed appointments.

ECU administrators will continue to work with city, county and state officials to gather more information about the condition of streets and roads coming into Greenville. The Tar River is expected to crest at more than 6 feet above major flood stage early Wednesday.
