RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Two North Carolina schools that serve a high number of low-income families have been honored for their progress.

The state Department of Public Instruction reports that
District 7 Elementary School (Cumberland County Schools) and Henderson Collegiate Charter School (Vance County) are North Carolina’s 2015 National Title I Distinguished Schools.

“When you visit these classrooms, you find dedicated teachers putting research into practice, promoting parent involvement, and using innovative instructional approaches to engage students,” State Superintendent of Public Instruction June Atkinson said in a statement.

District 7 was honored for sustained high student performance over three years.

Henderson Collegiate demonstrated high growth in closing the achievement gap between student groups.
