RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - North Carolina Central University's Dr. Jim Harper has been elected vice president of programs for the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH).

Harper is chairman of the university's history department.

His duties will run the gamut, according to NC Central. The will include programs, grant, conferences, and journals.

He has been a member of the association for 15 years.

Harper is a former winner of the University of North Carolina Board of Governors Excellence in Teaching Award.
