RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - The State Board of Education will meet Wednesday and Thursday on the 7th floor of the Education Building in downtown Raleigh. Following the Thursday meeting, State Superintendent of Public Instruction June Atkinson will hold a news conference to discuss the new grading system for schools.

Following approval of their January minutes, Board members will recognize North Carolina’s Career and Technical Education Teacher of the Year and Administrator of the Year, and School Health Champions. State Superintendent June Atkinson will follow with her report to the Board, which includes a legislative report from NCDPI Legislative and Community Affairs Director Rachel Beaulieu.
Under the Board’s Information Agenda, members will receive a report on Exemplary Alternative Education Programs: Beaufort County Ed Tech Center and the 2014 Healthy Active Children Report.
Under the Consent Agenda, members will approve New Licensure Areas for Institutions of Higher Education Programs, Report to the Joint Legislative Education Oversight Committee: Public School Procurement of Information Technology, Workers Compensation – Loss Prevention Policy Revision, 2014-16 State School Technology Plan, Charter Amendment to Change the Mission Statement for Summit Charter School, and Report to the Joint Legislative Education Oversight Committee: Evaluation of Innovative High School Programs.
Committee chairs will then report out and members will take action on regular agenda items as appropriate. Under the Globally Competitive Students Committee report, members will receive a presentation and take action on the 2013-14 School Performance Grades. Chairman Bill Cobey will conclude the meeting with his comments followed by a discussion of any new and old business.
Immediately following the State Board of Education meeting, State Superintendent June Atkinson will hold a press conference in Room 224 to discuss and respond to questions regarding the School Performance Grades.
