The North Carolina Democratic Party celebrates several new Democratic leaders after running a historic slate of diverse candidates in the 2020 election cycle.
Kicking off the 2021-22 session, legislative Democrats' focus remains on the challenges of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, fighting for an independent redistricting process, and working to address racial inequities across the state.
“As our state continues to struggle with the effects of COVID-19, we are committed to putting the people of North Carolina first,” said Senate Democratic Leader Dan Blue. “That means working together to build a strong and fair economy, expanding health care, improving public schools, and more.”
“There is so much for us to work on including broadband access, improving health care access, and investing in our public schools,” said House Democratic Leader Robert Reives.  “All of these policies will create local jobs, put more money in people’s pockets, and improve people’s lives in all parts of our state.”
“I am proud to welcome this group of new Democratic leaders to Raleigh today,” NCDP Chairman Wayne Goodwin (and former legislator) said. “Today, we start the important work of serving the people of North Carolina, defending the Democratic values of equality and justice, and fighting to deliver better health care, better schools, and more and better jobs for North Carolinians.”
