NC: State Senator Terry Van Duyn filed paperwork with the North Carolina Board of Elections to become North Carolina’s 35th Lieutenant Governor.

“I am running to bridge the gaps that so many North Carolinians face.” said Senator Van Duyn. She continued, “As Lieutenant Governor, I will work with Governor Cooper to make education our state’s top priority, I will cast the tie-breaking vote to expand Medicaid to over 500,000 North Carolinians who can’t afford to go to the doctor, and I will continue our fight to protect women’s access to healthcare from Murphy to Manteo.”

As the former Democratic Whip, Senator Van Duyn is the only candidate to have filed for the office that has served in the State Senate, the body in which the Lieutenant Governor serves as President, and to have leadership experience in the Democratic Caucus.

Senator Van Duyn enters the race having raised more money than any other candidate for Lieutenant Governor and having more Cash on Hand than all announced Democratic Primary Candidates combined, as of the latest finance disclosures.

During the 2018 election cycles, Senator Van Duyn partnered with Governor Cooper to win the six seats needed to break the Republican supermajority and was the lead fundraiser for the Senate Democratic Caucus.
