State Rep. Holly Grange, a Republican representing New Hanover county, is running for the GOP nomination for governor. 

 

Lt. Governor Dan Forest is also running for the Republican nomination. 

 

In her  announcement video, Grange emphaszed her background as a West Point graduate and U.S. Army veteran as well as her strong identifcation with President Donald Trump. 

 

"I know North Carolina can do better than career politicians like Roy Cooper. The president is an outsider who gets things done, and I’ll do the same. I’ll deliver the results the career politicians won’t," said in her campaign video. Grange said she will sign a bill mandating that sheriffs in the state comply with ICE requests.

 

The News and Observer reports Sen. Thom Tillis encouraged Grange to run against Forest.
