The North Carolina Democratic Party announced Meredith Cuomo as the party’s new Executive Director. Cuomo brings nearly two decades of experience working to elect Democrats in North Carolina and a proven history of raising and executing multi-million dollar budgets, building relationships with elected officials and party leaders, and overseeing much of the day-to-day work at the party. The NCDP State Executive Committee approved Cuomo as Executive Director on Saturday afternoon.

“Meredith has been an integral part of growing the North Carolina Democratic Party into the strong organization it is today,” said NCDP Chair Wayne Goodwin. “Her work ethic, detailed knowledge of the party’s needs, and positive attitude make her the perfect candidate to ensure we are on our best footing heading into 2019 and 2020.”

Cuomo served as the NCDP’s finance director during the 2018 cycle, where she helped build a $19 million budget in a historic blue moon election. Her efforts led the party to break the Republican supermajority in the General Assembly, sweep statewide judicial races, and flip dozens of seats from red to blue across the state. Before that, Cuomo served as the finance director for the NC Senate Democratic Caucus, where she restructured the digital fundraising program and worked closely with members of the Senate to meet fundraising goals.

“From improving our public schools to cleaning our waterways and making health care more accessible, Democrats are committed to making North Carolina a better place for all who live here, and I’m excited to press on with that important work,” said NCDP Executive Director Meredith Cuomo. “I am extremely proud of how the North Carolina Democratic Party has grown over the last several cycles, and I look forward to keeping up that momentum as we head into one of the most important elections of our lifetime.”

Cuomo is stepping into the role of Executive Director at a critical time for North Carolina Democrats. Coming off of major success in 2018 and heading into 2020, Democrats are focused on taking a majority in the General Assembly, re-electing Governor Cooper, flipping a U.S. Senate seat, protecting a majority on the courts, and continuing to make gains at the state and local level.
