The Durham Democratic Party has voted to have  MaryAnn Black to fill the District 29 House seat vacated by Larry Hall who left to serve as Secretary Military and Veterans Affairs for Governor Roy Cooper.
 
Black is associate vice president of community affairs for Duke Health and a former Durham County commissioner. 
 
Black holds a master of social work degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a bachelor of arts degree from Benedict College in Columbia, S.C.
