RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Closing arguments were heard Friday in the challenge to North Carolina's legislative districts, with a ruling not expected for several weeks.
At the heart of the case before a Greensboro federal court is whether lawmakers drew too many districts with majorities of the African-American voting-age population. More than two dozen are in question.
A separate case has challenged the legality of two congressional districts. A court ruled Districts 1 and 12 were wrongly drawn with race as the key factor and ordered new districts. That new map has been submittted for approval. A June 7 congressional primary has been scheduled based on the new map.
