RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - The former head of the Wake County Democratic Party is in the lead for the open state Treasurer's seat, according to polling data from North State Journal.

Dan Blue III leads his Republican opponent Dale Folwell, 21 to 15 percent. A huge portion of those polled -- 63 percent -- remain undecided.

Folwell is a former Forsyth County legislator and executive in the state's Commerce department. He is the person who oversaw the state's repayment of its $2 billion debt to the federal government for money borrowed during the Perdue administration to pay unemployment benefits.

Blue is seen as an up-and-comer in the Democratic Party known for playing a key role in the Kay Hagan re-election campaing. He is the son of Senate Minority Leader Dan Blue.
