RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Though there has been much controversy over House Bill 2's approval by the General Assembly and Gov. Pat McCrory, a new poll shows that 51 percent of registered voters agree with the move to overturn Charlotte's bathroom ordinance.

Time Warner Cable News data shows 40 percent said it was a bad idea and 9 percent weren't sure.

Charlotte's ordinance would have allowed transgendered individuals to use public restrooms, showers, and locker rooms of the gender with which they identify, not their biological sex.

Critics of House Bill 2's passage say it discriminates. Supporters say it is common sense privacy.

When asked if the new law would impact North Carolina's image, the data showed:

-- 23 percent positive effect
-- 46 percent negative effect
-- 26 percent makes no difference
-- 5 percent not sure
