RALEIGH, (AP) — A North Carolina appeals court has upheld jury decisions deciding congressional candidate Greg Brannon gave false or misleading statements while asking people to invest in a now-closed technology company.
Two of three judges on a state Court of Appeals panel rejected Tuesday arguments from Brannon's lawyers that he should get a new trial. A Wake County jury in 2014 concluded Brannon owes two investors more than $250,000 and another $132,000 in attorney fees and court costs.
Brannon is a Cary obstetrician who ran unsuccessfully for U.S. Senate in 2014 and last month. The Republican is now running for Congress in the 2nd District.
A third judge on the panel sided largely with Brannon. Brannon attorney Mark Finkelstein says he expects Brannon will appeal to the state Supreme Court.
