RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - The newly drawn 13th Congressional district has drawn 17 Republicans and 5 Democrats into the race to succeed Republican George Holding, who is running in the newly drawn 2nd District.

The 13th district used to compromise a big chunk of the Triangle but has been moved 100 miles west into the Triad. Holding lives in the Triangle.

The primary will be held June 7. There will be no runoff; the candidate with the most votes will go on to the general election.

The new district exists because of the legal battle over election map lines. A federal court ordered North Carolina legislators to redraw congressional lines after determining that several districts were drawn with race as the key factor.

A full list of candidates can be found at ncsbe.gov.
