RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Twenty-eight people had filed to run for a seat in the U.S. Congress under a redrawn election map as of Tuesday afternoon.

The deadline to file is Friday.

A federal court ordered the General Assembly to redraw the map because, the court said, districts 1 and 12 had been drawn using race as the key factor. The new map is pending review by the court.

The legal action put off the congressional primary from March 15 to June 7.

So far, the most interesting race is in District 2, where Republican incumbent already faces two Republican challengers: George Holding and Greg Brannon.

Rep. Holding currently represents District 13, but the new District 13 is well west of its current Triangle location. Dr. Greg Brannon is a Tea Party favorite who has run twice for the U.S. Senate and lost both times to Richard Burr.

The full filing list can be found at ncsbe.gov.
