RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - The North Carolina election maps drawn in 2011 are constitutional, according to the North Carolina Supreme Court. The ruling is the second from the high court that gives the stamp of approval to the maps drawn by Republicans following the 2010 U.S. Census - a move required by law.

“We hold that the enacted House and Senate plans, as well as the federal congressional plan, satisfy state and federal constitutional and statutory requirements and, specifically, that the three-judge panel’s decision fully complies with the Supreme Court’s decisions in Alabama,” Justice Paul Newby, a Republican, wrote for the majority.

One of the plaintiffs in the lawsuit is Margaret Dickson, a former state senator from Cumberland County. In a statement, she said the plaintiffs would appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.
