RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Dr. Rose Fernandez Stein, an Alamance County pediatrician, says she will seek the Republican Party nomination for Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Dr. June Atkinson, a Democrat, currently holds the position.

Filing for the position begins Dec. 1.

Dr. Stein's website says she believes "the status quo is hurting our children."

She lists keys to education as Remove Common Core,  
Phonics, English as a Second Language (immersion), Parental involvement, and Classical education.

Dr. Stein and her husband own a pediatrics practice in Burlington. She serves on a variety of education and civic committees, including as Education Subcommittee Chair for the Governor's Advisory Council for Latino/Hispanic Affairs and the Board of Trustees for Alamance Community College.
