RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Charlotte Mayor Dan Clodfelter couldn't muster enough fellow Democrats to stave off a primary challenge from Jennifer Roberts Tuesday. Roberts beat the appointed incumbent by 54 to 45 percent.
Roberts's win -- just a week after her father died -- gives her the party's nomination and sets up a general election match-up with Republican Ed Peacock.
Clodfelter was appointed last year when Democratic Mayor Patrick Cannon resigned among federal corruption charges.
In Raleigh, Mayor Nancy McFarlane breezed to a third term with 75 percent of the vote, defeating Bob Weltzin.
