RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Wake County Rep. Paul "Skip" Stam ended the long legislative session early Wednesday morning by telling his colleagues he will not seek another term in the North Carolina House of Representatives, where he serves as Speaker Pro Tem.

Stam has served for 16 years. He will serve out his term, which ends after the short legislative session in 2016.

Stam is a lawyer known for his support of conservative fiscal and social policies, and for his dogged efforts to expand parental choice in education.
