RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Spring Lake Mayor Chris Rey says he will seek the Democratic Pary's nomination for U.S. Senate in an effort to unseat Republican incumbent Sen. Richard Burr.

Rey's Facebook page included the following posting after he announced earlier this week:

"24 hours into our announcement for the U.S Senate and I humbled by the outpouring of support. North Carolina we are just getting started. -CR"

Rey has been the mayor of Spring Lake since 2011.

Media rumors have also swirled around former state legislator Deborah Ross, an attorney who recently left her job at a transit agency. Her resignation has fueled even more speculation that she, too, will see the Democratic nomination.
