RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Wake County Democrat Josh Stein says he wants to the next Attorney General of North Carolina. His Monday announcement confirmed rumors that had been swirling for months about his ambition.

The current office holder, Roy Cooper, is expected to soon announce his desire to challenge Republican Gov. Pat McCrory for the state's top job.

Stein held press events in Charlotte, Greensboro, and Raleigh. Stein is a four-term North Carolina state senator.

He is a former Senior Deputy Attorney General for Consumer Protection in the North Carolina Department of Justice.
 
“The people of North Carolina deserve an Attorney General with the right experience and who will always put their interests first,” Stein said in a statement.
