RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - State Sen. Josh Stein is leading the fundraising charge for the state's Democratic Party with an email charging the Republicans' state budget deal "fails our children, our educators, and our future."

I didn’t get much sleep last night. I was pouring over a more than 600-page budget document that the Republican politicians in Raleigh brought to a vote only a few hours after releasing it to the public.
 
In the process, the Republican leadership disrespected the people of North Carolina by allowing virtually no time for the public or legislators to consider thoughtfully the single most important bill this General Assembly will pass. This is no way to run a government.
 
The budget they've offered once again fails our children, our educators, and our future. It chooses to spend nearly $2 billion in tax giveaways to large profitable corporations and their out-of-state shareholders over the next five years while shortchanging our public schools.
 
Our public schools will receive less money, because instead of putting more textbooks in our children's classrooms Republicans are dumping $14 million into private school vouchers. Experienced teachers do not get a dime of salary increase even though under the current leadership, North Carolina has dropped to near the bottom in teacher pay.
 
The people of North Carolina deserve better. We need a better budget process and we need a better budget. Fight back against this regressive budget today by donating $25 to the North Carolina Democratic Party so we can elect a legislature that will pass a better budget for North Carolina families.
 
I'm not a fan of the budget numbers I've seen today but here are some numbers I can get behind:
 
4: The number of House and Senate seats we need to pick up in 2016 to begin taking back the legislature
 
$25: The amount I'm asking you to donate today to fund the grassroots effort needed to elect a Democratic governor and legislature
 
2016: The year we take back North Carolina and get to work putting our State back on track.
