RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - A former legislator who is heading to federal prison has reportedly called his prosection a 'witch hunt.'

WRAL-TV reports on its website that former Kinston legislator Stephen LaRoque sent a letter to media outlets over the weekend that said, among other things:

"This whole prosecution has been a witch hunt carried on by my political opponents."

LaRoque, a Republican, is heading to federal in Butner this week. He was sentenced to two years in federal prison.  Earlier this year he pleaded guilty to taking money meant for a nonprofit he operated and using it for himself and his family.
