RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Congressman G.K. Butterfield has announced that colleague Bobby Scott of Virginia will be a special guest at the North Carolina Democrat Party's Jefferson Jackson Dinner.

The dinner is June 13.

Scott's election is historic. He is the first African-Amercan Congressman from Virginia since Reconstruction.

"He has supported an increase in the minimum wage, paid parental leave, and providing healthcare to all," according to the Democratic Party's email signed by Butterfield. "Congressman Scott serves on the House Education and Labor Committee whose purpose is to ensure that Americans' needs are addressed so that students and workers may move forward in a changing school system and a competitive global economy. I have worked with Congressman Scott for several years now, and he's a true champion to our nation's hard working folks."
