RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - A fundraising email from The Pat McCrory Committee is touting last week's announcement that the state has paid back the $2.5 billion debt it owed to the federal government for money borrowed to pay unemployment benefits several years ago.

Following is the text of the email.

----------------------------------------------

Friend,

The differences are all around us.

Back in 2009, while hard-working North Carolinians were making the tough choices to live within their means, Governor Perdue and her big spending allies were running our state deeply into the red. As a result, when I took office our state was saddled with $2.5 BILLION in unemployment insurance debt that was a drag on job creators.

I'm happy to announce that we have paid off this stifling debt more than 3 years earlier than planned! We are just getting started in North Carolina, but we need help from people like you to keep our momentum going.

Will you help North Carolina continue down the fiscally responsible path by contributing $10 today?

This means employers in North Carolina will save over $280 million this year – money that can be used to create jobs! This is a major weight off of our state’s back and the latest step forward in the Carolina Comeback.

Chip in $10 to the Pat McCrory Committee and let’s keep the state moving in the right direction.

For North Carolina!

Governor Pat McCrory
