RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - If Democratic Attorney General Roy Cooper decides to run for governor, he won't be able to use the internet domain "roycooperforgovernor.com." That's because the state Republican Party has already snapped it up and is using it to take jabs at the man many political analysts believe will take a run at Gov. Pat McCrory.

On Wednesday -- April Fool's Day -- the state Republican Party issued a press release with the headline: Roy Cooper Announces for North Carolina Governor. It wasn't until page 2 at the bottom that the released said in bold: "This is a parody and not affiliated with Roy Cooper."

But anyone reading the release should have known it was a spoof based on the content, which took shots at Cooper, not McCrory.

Cooper hasn't been shy about publicly criticizing the governor. His personal Facebook page contains an attack ad. "With drastic cuts to our school system, Governor McCrory and his allies in the legislature have gone too far," says the Facebook post. The page also urges people to "add your name" to a petition.
