RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Republican Rep. Tim Moore is set to ascend to the role of North Carolina House Speaker next month, replacing outgoing Rep. Thom Tillis, who is heading to Washington D.C. as North Carolina's newest U.S. Senator.

Moore hales from Cleveland County. He received the endorsement for the post from the Republican caucus in November. The official vote will take place in January. While Democrats will also vote on the Speakership, since Republicans hold the majority in the House, there is little chance that Moore will not be formally installed.

Moore was first elected in 2002. For the past four years, he has been chairman of the powerful Rules Committee under the Tillis speakership.

Moore told WRAL TV recently that Republican legislators, who took control of the General Assembly in 2010, have "righted the ship" and that North Carolinians expect lawmakers to govern and show that the state can "live within our means."
