RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Laura Fjeld, the Democratic candidate seeking the 6th District seat in Congress continues to hammer her Republican opponent, Mark Walker, for what she terms "extremist" views.

In an e-mail to supporters this week, Fjeld, a former UNC official, related her appearance with Planned Parenthood representatives.

Fjeld and Walker are vying for the seat that has been held for two decades by Republican Howard Coble, who is retiring.

The email is as follows:
--------------

"Friends,

I just came back from a great press conference with Planned Parenthood and prominent women leaders in the Greensboro community.  Janet Colm, the CEO of Planned Parenthood Action Fund of Central North Carolina, joined me to talk about the important primary care services that Planned Parenthood provides, and the fact that my opponent wants to defund Planned Parenthood.

I also spoke about my belief that a woman's health care decisions should be between a woman and her doctor, without government intrusion.  My opponent would eliminate a woman's right to choose, and make no exceptions, even in cases of rape, incest, or when her own life is at stake. This stems from his staunch commitment to passing a law that says all life begins at conception.

Support for that same law would make illegal common forms of birth control, such as the pill and IUD.  As Janet Colm from Planned Parenthood stated, "The only controversy about birth control is that it's 2014 and we're still fighting for it!"

My opponent's extremism is blinding him from the issues that matter.  We need to move this state forward and focus on jobs, the economy, and improving education at all levels.  That is why I am running for Congress, to break through the gridlock, and get things done for the people of North Carolina.

Thanks for all of your support,
