State Board of Elections Sets Special Filing Period In Three Judicial Races Print

RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Candidates seeking to run for three judicial seats being vacated in North Carolina now have a schedule to follow. On Tuesday the State Board of Elections set the special filing period for Friday, August 1 through Friday, August 8.

 
The seats being vacated are:
 
--Chief Judge John Martin of the Court of Appeals, who has announced his resignation effective August 1.
 
-- Superior Court Judge William Constangy of Mecklenburg County, who will retire August 31 having reached the mandatory retirement age of 72.
 
-- Superior Court Judge Robert Johnson of Alamance County, who has announced his resignation effective August 1. 
 
Candidates may file during regular business hours at the State Board of Elections office in Raleigh.
 
The statutory filing fee is $1,331 for the Court of Appeals and $1,259 for Superior Court. 
 
All qualified candidates will appear on the General Election ballot in November. The winner in each race will be determined by a plurality.
