RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Federal Election Commission reports show that the Phil Berger, Jr., one of the two Republicans vying for the party's nomination for the 6th District seat in Congress, has raised more money overall than his opponent, Mark Walker.

The Greensboro News & Record reports that FEC data shows Berger has raised $461,756 and Walker has raised $315,059.

Political action committees -- PACs -- and other groups accounted for just more than $125,000 of Berger's money haul. Walker's PAC money totalled just $400, the newspaper reported.

Early voting is underway in the primary runoff and runs through Saturday. Election Day is Tuesday, July 15.

Berger won the May primary but did not reach the 40 percent threshhold to take the nomination outright. Walker came in second in a very crowded field.

The runoff winner will face Democrat Laura Fjeld in the fall.
