RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - It may not get a hearing during the "short" legislative session, but three Republican legislators have moved ahead anyway on a push to extend legislators' terms from two to four years.

House Bill 817 would also limit legislators to four consecutive terms -- or 16 consecutive years.

The bill is sponsored by Republican Sens. Warren Daniel of Burke County, Ronald Rabin of Harnett County, and Jeff Tarte of Mecklenburg County.

The bill would change the state constitution. If passed by the General Assembly this session, it would appear on the November ballot.

If voters gave a thumbs up to the amendment in November, it would take effect with the 2016 session.
