RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - More than a dozen people filed to run for the U.S. Congress on Day 1 of the candidate filing period, according to data from the State Board of Elections.

Two Republicans -- Mark Harris and Ted Alexander -- filed to run for the GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Democrat Kay Hagan. No Democrats filed on Monday.
 
In the 2nd District race for the U.S. House of Representatives, conservative Frank Roche filed to challenge fellow Republican Renee Ellmers. No Democrats filed on Monday.
 
Veteran Democratic Congressman David Price filed Monday for another run in the reliably Democratic 4th District. No Republicans filed Monday.
 
The filing period runs through Feb. 28.
