Data from Public Policy Polling gives Tillis 19 percent of the primary vote. His closest competitors are Greg Brannon and Heather Grant, who are tied at 11 percent.  Mark Harris has 8 percent of the vote, while Bill Flynn finishes with 7 percent.

 

The primary is May 6. A candidate needs to secure 40 percent of the vote to win outright. 

 

PPP reports that Harris' support has declined by 4 points while other candidates are holding steady.

 

Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan continues to lose to all her potential Republican challengers, according to PPP data.

 

Hagan loses to Tillis and Grant by 1 percentage point and loses by 2 percentage points to the other GOP candidates. Her job disapproval number sits at 49 percent. 

 

Last week, Sen. Hagan failed to join President Obama during his visit to North Carolina. She cited the Senate being in session as the reason. Republicans pointed out that in a previous year, Hagan accompanied the president to the state while the Senate was in session. 

 

Pundits speculate that Hagan -- who voted for the Affordable Care Act -- does not want to campaign with the president since the majority of North Carolinians disapprove of the job he's doing.
