RALEIGH, (AP) — North Carolina Democrats are losing the fundraising battle by a wide margin with less than four months to go until the general election.

Recently released campaign finance reports show that state Republicans raised more than four times as much money during a 10-week reporting period between late April and June 30.

Republicans raised nearly $772,000 and ended with about $966,000 in cash. Democrats pulled in a little less than $185,000 and had almost $188,000 cash on hand during the same amount of time.

The greatest disparity was between individual donations. Republicans raked in $212,000. Democrats brought in $2,700.

A N.C. Democratic party spokesman says organizers don't want to fully tap into contacts until closer to the election. The state Republican party spokesman did not immediately return a request for comment.
