Bill Would Divert $50 Million Of Highway Money To RDU Print

Raleigh-Durham International Airport would receive $50 million from North Carolina's Highway Trust Fund to rebuild one of its runways if a bill introduced in the Senate is passed. 
 
Senate Bill Bill 351 sponsored by Senator Bill Rabon who represents Bladen, Brunswick, New Hanover and Pender counties, would divert the money from the Highway Trust Fund would be used to rebuild RDU's 10,000 foot runway. Specifically, the legislation calls for the money to go for facilities to accommodate international flights.
 
RDU has two trans-Atlantic flights. American Airlines has flown to London from RDU for decades service while Delta recently initiated a route to Paris.
