In the continuing power struggle over the Senate's power to approve Governor Roy Cooper's cabinet appointments, the Senate Judiciary Committee has slapped a subpoena to Public Safety Secretary Erik Hooks for a confirmation hearing.

Chair Senator Tamara Barringer said Hooks would only attend the March 15 hearing under subpoena.

Larry Hall, Cooper’s secretary of military and veterans affairs, attended confirmation hearings last week under a subpoena. After earning a unanimous vote for confirmation in committee Hall was unanimously confirmed by the Senate on Monday, March 6.
