RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - A 30-year veteran of the Charlotte/Mecklenburg police department is poised to assume the helm of the state Bureau of Investigation.

On Wednesday, Gov. Pat McCrory nominated Robert Schurmeier, Jr. as director during a ceremony at the Executive Mansion.

Schurmeier retired from the Charlotte force in 2004, where his last position was deputy chief over Investigations. He served in Patrol, Investigations, Support Services and Administration divisions.
 
Following retirement, Schurmeier has been president of a private investigative and security consulting firm. He is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and lives in Charlotte.
