North Carolinians are being urged to prepare for severe weather as our state heads into the volatile early spring season.

Gov. Pat McCrory's office reports that schools and government buildings statewide will hold tornado drills Wednesday, while test messages will be broadcast on National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration weather radios and the Emergency Alert System.

Last year, the state suffered through nine tornadoes. Those storms and tornadoes caused more than $12 million in damages. More than 500 severe thunderstorm warnings were also issued.
