RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - In a show of bipartisan support for learning more about the resources that exist off the Mid-Atlantic coast, Gov. Pat McCrory is urging the federal government to approve seismic surveying. Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, a Democrat, joined Republican McCrory in the letter.

McCrory is chairman of the Outer Continental Shelf Governors Coalition.

“New geological and geophysical surveys are necessary to provide the critical data required for informed exploration, development and environmental decisions,” wrote the governors. “Most seismic information for the Atlantic is more than three decades old.  With advanced seismic data collection and computer modeling, the industry will be better equipped to safely recover oil and gas resources and site offshore wind energy turbine generators.”
