RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - A 585-page complaint filed against Gov. Pat McCrory by Progress NC Action has been dismissed, the governor's office announced on Wednesday.
The group had alleged a pattern of "ommissions and contradictions" in the governor's ethics forms.

The governor's statement is posted below.

“Earlier this year the liberal activist group Progress NC Action filed two complaints against me with the State Ethics Commission. They hired a lawyer to draft and file 585 pages of frivolous documents making malicious and unfounded attacks. I’m pleased to announce that the bipartisan Ethics Commission has dismissed each and every claim contained in those 585 pages.

"This was never about ethics. It was about politics. For these groups, nothing is off limits as long as they believe it will further their clearly stated goal of 'eviscerating' me. Here, they even went after my brother, attempting to smear his name and the business he’s worked so hard to build.

"Unfortunately, some media outlets are very receptive to these stunts, especially those who are always looking to 'raise questions' instead of finding answers.  This dismissal speaks for itself.  It’s a resounding answer to the 'questions raised' in these complaints.

"As a final note, the complaint process is designed to be confidential. This includes the initial complaint filed with the Commission. Progress NC Action ignored the confidentiality of this process because they wanted free publicity at the expense of the truth. Instead, they held a press conference on the front lawn of the Ethics Commission.  Had they respected the confidentiality of this process, I would have kept this dismissal confidential from inquiring reporters. However, we are well beyond that point. More than 1000 negative news stories and editorials helped publicize this smear campaign. The people of this state deserve to know that at the end of this long process, all these complaints were thrown out. I hope at least one news story restores the truth about the integrity, high values and respect I hold for this office. Unfounded negative attacks continue, but I will always fight to ensure that the truth comes to light.”
